In the first article, it described how obsessive Germans are at keeping records to prove things have been done, or that people are able to do them. Compared to the few pages that Americans turn in as a resume, Germans use extensive length that has documented everything about themselves. Also students are required to keep all the documentation that they have completed everything and must bring this to the exam so that they will be able to take it.
In the second article it explains that Germany has a great many rules when it comes to interacting with neighbors. In my opinion I think that these rules are ridiculous. It should be your right to be able to do what you want when you want in your own home and on your own property. You should not have to abide by all of the people surrounding you to appease to everyone but yourself. It kind of makes me think of living in a retirement community where someone always has a problem no matter what.
In the third article it describes how Germany abstains from flying their country's flag. It is very confusing to us as Americans since most buildings including houses fly the American flag on a regular basis. It says this happened after WWII, and I see how this could impact the desire to do this, but after this had happened for several years, I would have thought that it would have readopted the flag.
From the book articles I have students on Germany are trained in a profession that they will most likely have for life. Occupational choices come early in life in third and fourth grade. Also Vienna is the capital of Austria and downtown is a compelling mixture of modern and historic scene.
